Weinert knows that great wines are best appreciated when they have been well aged.

Most wineries sign off on the process of creating perfect wines early, a year or two after harvest. Leaving the onus on the consumer to carefully age the wines under the ideal conditions.

Weinert doesn’t shuck this responsibility, instead electing to age their finest wines in house, ensuring the best possible experience for their customers.

That Argentine wines can age gracefully I have determined from other bodegas’s efforts, but Weinert put the matter to rest.

I had the opportunity to sample their exquisite 1977 Cava, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Malbec.

The solid red color attested to the further ageability of the wine (wines that are nearing their peak turn more orange,

towards brick). The sweet red fruit would have been long faded in a lesser example of vinous art.

While the 1977 may not be a bottle you can buy when you visit, their 2004 Cava is the current release as is their 2004 Cab, 2005 Malbec and 2006 Merlot. Each of these wines will reward your search.

Their entry level wines do not have the great age of their flagship line, but they too merit your attention.

The 100 plus year history of the winery is evident everywhere you look, but it was the revival of the property in 1975 that led to the current successes and ultimately it is the vision and skill of their Swiss winemaker Hubert Weber that is to thank for bringing us this gem.
