Hacienda Del Plata

The story of Hacienda del Plata begins, as is fitting, at a time when it was indeed a cattle ranch. The history is older than even the country of Argentina itself. The family ranch was a famous stop for travelers at a cross roads at the foot of the Andes Mountains. There is no sign of the ancient homestead today, as it lays deep beneath the Porterillos reservoir. It seems only fitting that the land that once nourished the weary and far from home, should now play host to the waters that not only nourish the entire city of Mendoza, but the vineyards that remain the legacy of the González-Toso family.

The winery itself is in Chacras de Coria, surrounded by just one of the vineyards that supply its grapes. Hidden behind stone walls along the busy main throughway, few realize that a gem hides in plain sight. The bodega and tasting room blend the traditions of the family who zealously uphold the name and honor of all those who have come before them, with an equally fervent desire to explore new and effective ways of creating the best possible wines.

To visit is to be immersed in the Gonzales family’s passion of wine and winemaking. That they love what they are doing is evident from the joy they exhibit, that they are successful at it is even more obvious from the first sip of their wine.

Three vineyards in far a field locations allows Hacienda del Plata to develop wines with superb complexity as they take advantage of these diverse flavors to create wines that are much more than a sum of their parts

Visitors will be treated as if they were guests in the Gonzales family home, which indeed is what the 100 year old tasting room and winery is. The family themselves will share their labors of love, and infect you with their enthusiasm.
